Hydroelectricity is electricity produced from hydropower and its cost is relatively low, making it a competitive source of renewable electricity. A hydraulic turbine converts the energy of flowing water into mechanical energy. A hydroelectric generator converts this mechanical energy into electricity. The available system designed by De Lorenzo is for the study and display of both the behavior and the characteristics of a Pelton turbine. The turbine’s housing is transparent to show how it uses the inertia produced by a water jet. A braking device, by means of an electric brake, allows showing the turbine working at different speeds. A hydraulic bench is suggested to pump water into the turbine. This equipment is recommended for high schools and first years of university.
